(Seguin) — A South Texas woman who was the subject of a search in Guadalupe County has been found safe.
The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office says 38-year-old Aryssa Leann Torres of Alice was located Friday in Buda. Officials say she is safe and is now receiving the help she needs.
The search began after Torres’ family reported they had been unable to reach her, which they said was unusual because they typically communicated every day.
Deputies had actually encountered Torres twice on Aug. 8 in southern Guadalupe County. During one of those encounters, she was walking near Curry and O’Daniel roads and told deputies she was training for a marathon and planned to return to a nearby Airbnb. Deputies provided her with a Gatorade and allowed her to continue because they said there was nothing at the time indicating she needed additional assistance.
Concern grew Thursday when Torres’ vehicle, phone and other personal belongings were discovered abandoned at Amazing Grace Baptist Church along State Highway 123 in Seguin. There was no evidence of foul play, but deputies said handwritten notes found inside the vehicle suggested Torres might be experiencing a mental health crisis.
Family members also told investigators they believed Torres had been attending a continuing education conference in San Antonio and did not know why she had traveled to rural Guadalupe County.
The Sheriff’s Office subsequently declared Torres missing and asked the public for help locating her. Her photo and description were widely shared Thursday and Friday, including on KWED Radio and social media.
That search has now ended. Torres was located safe in Buda, and authorities say she is getting the assistance she needs.
