(Seguin) — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is providing an update on the major widening project along Interstate 10 here in Seguin. They say the work, which remains ahead of schedule, continues between FM 464 and SH 130.
TxDOT crews for the last several months have been focused on several major improvements throughout the corridor.
According to TxDOT, the project includes widening I-10 from four to six lanes between FM 464 and SH 123, rebuilding ramps, converting frontage roads to one-way traffic and constructing new bridges.
They say current work includes roadway paving and improvements, bridge construction at multiple locations, retaining wall installation and safety upgrades throughout the highway.
Over the next two months, TxDOT says crews will continue work on the new eastbound frontage road, advance bridge construction, install additional concrete pavement and complete other safety improvements.
The good news, however, for drivers, according to TxDOT, is that no major traffic pattern changes are planned during the next two months.
The project which began in January 2024 is slated for completion in the summer of 2029.
Meanwhile, drivers are reminded about this week’s SH 123 closure for bridge work.
As part of this same ongoing I-10 project, TxDOT reminds drivers that SH 123 will be closed nightly between the I-10 eastbound and westbound frontage roads.
The closure is scheduled now through Saturday, Aug. 15 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Drivers will be detoured around the closure, with southbound traffic directed to the I-10 westbound frontage road and SH 123 Business, while northbound traffic will be routed onto the eastbound frontage road and I-10 before returning to SH 123.
TxDOT advises motorists to allow extra travel time, follow posted detour signs and use caution around construction crews and equipment.
