Seguin Parks seeking instructors for after-school JAAM program

(Seguin) — Need a job — preferably after school?

The City of Seguin is looking to add staff for its JAAM (Jammin’ After-School Adventures for Me) after-school program.

The Parks and Recreation Department is hiring both instructors and lead instructors to work with elementary students at the five participating campuses across the Seguin ISD.

Erica Taft, assistant director of parks and recreation, says instructors play an important role in providing a safe and engaging environment for children after school each day.

“Our instructor works with the kids every day after school playing games with the kids and making sure the environment is safe and they’re engaged until their parents pick them up,” said Taft.

Taft says lead instructors take on additional responsibilities, including overseeing daily operations, communicating with parents and helping manage student behavior.

Taft says applicants don’t necessarily need “years of professional experience to get started as instructors.”

“To be an instructor, you just have to have some experience with kids. So we have high school students who have babysat a lot. We have college students who have worked in other programs like YMCA or Boys and Girls Club or community center, or they’re a teaching major,” said Taft.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old to serve as instructors. Those interested in becoming lead instructors must be at least 18 years old, have a driver’s license and previous experience working with children.

The JAAM program operates through the first day of school until the last day of the school year.

Those interested in applying or learning more about available positions can contact the Seguin Parks and Recreation Department at 830-401-2480.
