A cool place for everybody

A cool place for everybody

Red Beard’s Landing inviting folks over to Lake Placid

(Seguin) — As Lake Placid makes its long-awaited comeback, one local business owner is making sure everyone — not just those who live on the waterfront — has a chance to enjoy it.

Chris Nelligan-Davis has transformed part of his lakeside property — his backyard to be exact — into Red Beard’s Landing Seguin, where visitors can swim, rent kayaks and paddleboards, relax along the shoreline, or book a boat ride.

Nelligan-Davis says the idea is about more than recreation.

“It was kind of just going to be water access only if you come from the water. And then all our friends and other patrons were just walking through our backyard anyway. In my opinion, it’s kind of what life is about — it’s just, sharing and getting along with each other. It just wouldn’t seem right if I just, kept it all to myself,” said Nelligan-Davis.

The Landing first opened after Lake Placid was drained in 2021. That’s when Nelligan-Davis and his wife decided to make the best of a difficult situation by creating a welcoming place for the community.

“Everybody that’s come down has been really cool. And the last few days, I’ve heard it as like a Cheers in the water. Just everybody kind of shakes hands and says hello when you first come down. It’s not like a stranger kind of place. It’s just like, hey, what’s up? What’s your name?” said Nelligan-Davis.

Nelligan-Davis says his goal is for guests to feel like they’re spending the day at a friend’s lake house, adding that sharing the lake with others is what brings him the greatest joy.

He says cost is $10 a person or free for those looking to stop by and enjoy a cold one at the bar overlooking the water. The small business is located at 933 Reiley Rd.
