(Kingsbury) — One of Kingsbury’s longest running traditions returns this weekend. The Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Department is inviting families from across Guadalupe County and the surrounding area for its 56th Annual BBQ Fundraiser this Saturday.
Katie Younger, secretary for the Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Department, says the event is more than just a fundraiser.
“It helps us getting to know everyone in our community, even if we don’t get calls to that particular place. It still gives us a chance to meet everyone in our community and outside of our community. We get people from Seguin, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Luling, Gonzales — everyone from around — to come and get to know everyone. I think that’s the best part to me,” said Younger.
Preparations for the event actually begin Friday as volunteers gather to cook the food overnight.
Barbecue plates will be served from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Plates are $15 each.
Guests can also enjoy a live auction, a silent auction, vendor market, bake sale plus a gun raffle. Tickets will be $20 each.
The evening will wrap up will a free dance beginnning at 9 p.m. Live music will be provided by Clint Taft and the Buckwild Band.
Younger says the department is excited about welcoming new volunteers and hopes that folks will stop by and learn more about department’s future.
“I would just come out and have a great time. We do have a lot of new people helping with the barbecue this year, so that’s a good time to come meet everyone new that’s helping with it. It’s also a really good time to hang out with everyone. I would encourage everyone to come out, have a great time, have some good barbecue and just enjoy it,” said Younger.
The Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Department is located at 6205 FM 1103 in Kingsbury.
