More shells, more time in the sky: Seguin promises biggest fireworks spectacular in city history

More shells, more time in the sky: Seguin promises biggest fireworks spectacular in city history

(Seguin) — Bigger isn’t just a slogan for Seguin’s 2026 Fireworks Fiesta. This year, city officials say they’re backing up that claim with more fireworks, a longer show, a new pyrotechnics company and more sponsor money — all in celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

When fireworks light up the sky at 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 3, Seguin Parks and Recreation Director Jack Jones says spectators will see what city officials believe will be the most ambitious display ever launched over Max Starcke Park.

After using the same fireworks company for several years, Jones says the city of Seguin decided it was time to seek fresh ideas and approved the bid by Rushing’s Pyrotechnics.

Jones says changing companies wasn’t about replacing a bad show. In fact, he says last year’s display was “widely considered one of the city’s best.”

Instead, Jones says the goal was to build on that success.

He says the new company’s proposal included hundreds of more fireworks than previous years while also introducing new artistic firing techniques, shell patterns and choreography designed to create a more visually dynamic performance.

He says the city initially gained roughly 600 additional shells simply through the new contract. Then, with extra financial support from local sponsors, H-E-B, Niagara Bottling, and Caterpillar — it allowed the city to further increase its budget, resulting in nearly 1,000 more shells than were fired during last year’s show.

The additional fireworks Jones says also mean more time in the sky.

Instead of last year’s 22-minute performance, this year’s patriotic celebration will last approximately 27 minutes — making it the longest fireworks show in Seguin history.

The fireworks display will once again be choreographed to patriotic music broadcast live on AM 1580 KWED. Families are encouraged to tune their radios as the fireworks are synchronized with the music. The broadcast will also be streamed online at SeguinToday.com.

The timing of the celebration is also intentional.

For newcomers wondering why Seguin celebrates on July 3 instead of Independence Day itself, Jones says the tradition gives residents the best of both worlds.

Holding the show a day early allows families to enjoy Seguin’s celebration before visiting relatives or attending fireworks displays in neighboring communities on July 4. It also gives people the opportunity to experience multiple celebrations over the holiday weekend.

He says there are practical advantages as well.

Because fewer communities hold large fireworks shows on July 3, the city is able to secure top pyrotechnic crews before they’re committed to larger July 4 productions elsewhere. Jones says that means Seguin benefits from a fresh crew and greater availability while avoiding direct competition with dozens of other celebrations across Texas.

The schedule also helps families enjoy the holiday without staying out late before returning to work or school the following day when July 4 falls during the week.

This year, with the Fireworks Fiesta on July 3, Seguin’s Fourth of July parade and Freedom Fiesta on July 4, followed by the city’s Concert in the Park on Sunday, Jones says the community will enjoy an entire weekend dedicated to celebrating America’s milestone birthday.

“This year we’re going big,” said Jones. “I hope people walk away with a great memory of their experience and are proud of what Seguin has done for the community.”
