Celebration set for Saturday night in downtown Seguin
(Seguin) – The weekend has arrived for this year’s KWED Freedom Fiesta. The free event will be held for the first time in a very long time on the actual July Fourth holiday from 6 to 11 p.m. in Seguin’s Central Park.
The event will include live music by Clint Taft and the Buck Wild Band. Playing alongside him will be his son Colton. Playing at the same time at his own dance floor will be DJ D-Trayne. Look for special surprise guests and the kickoff to Seguin’s Independence dance party at 8 p.m.
The event this year is being co-sponsored by the city of Seguin and will include double the fun with close to 40 food options; vendors, plus plenty of children’s activities including kids games, huge moon bounces, a bull riding machine, a petty zoo, face painting plus balloon animals.
Kicking events off at 6 p.m. will be this year’s opening ceremony featuring Dottsy Dwyer who will be singing the National Anthem and an original song, “O’Seguin.” Joining the festivities this year will also be the Guadalupe Valley Young Marines.
Immediately following will be the annual Kiddie Parade hosted by the Guadalupe County Republican Women. Any decorated entry is welcome in any of the 3 categories: Self-Powered Riders (bikes/scooters), Walkers (including wagons & strollers), and Motorized Entries. There is no registration required and no fee for this event, but participants should arrive about 5:30 to get a number and find a place in the line-up. While awards will once again be presented for the most patriotic entries in several categories, KWED says there’s an extra incentive this year.
It says every child who participates in the Kiddie Parade will automatically be entered into a drawing for a special grand prize, courtesy of the Law Office of Ruben James Reyes.
Also since Freedom Fiesta will be held on the night of the Fourth, many of the festival’s food vendors will be serving breakfast for the first time, giving early risers the chance to enjoy breakfast tacos, pastries, coffee and other morning favorites before, during or after this year’s Biggest Small-Town Fourth of July Parade in Texas. Organizers say it’s a unique addition that allows visitors to make Freedom Fiesta an all-day experience from morning until night and with a great break for vendors right in the middle. There is no cost for Freedom Fiesta.
