(New Braunfels) — Michael French will be the new mayor of New Braunfels following Saturday’s runoff.
French handily defeated incumbent Mayor Neal Linnartz by a margin of 62 to 38 percent. In the May municipal election, French earned 49 percent of the vote and was declared the winner because he had won the plurality. But the Texas Constitution says office terms longer than two years must be elected by a majority vote.
City officials reversed French’s declared victory and scheduled the June 13th runoff. City Attorney Valeria Acevedo lost her job over the mistake.
