Voters welcome Germann back to Pct. 4

Voters welcome Germann back to Pct. 4

(Seguin) — Guadalupe County Commissioner Stephen Germann has reclaimed his seat. Germann on Tuesday defeated challenger Joel Hicks in Tuesday’s Republican Primary Runoff Election for the Precinct 4 seat.

Germann received 1,940 votes, or 60.83 percent of the ballots cast, while Hicks received 1,249 votes, or 39.17 percent of the vote. The victory marks the beginning of Germann’s second term on the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court.

Germann says he is excited and grateful for the support shown by voters and to all those who helped throughout the campaign.

“I need to thank my wife and my son and my media people that have helped me and we got it done but the voters are the ones that went back and said this is what we want done and that’s what we did,” said Germann.

But all in all, he says it was the voters who got what they wanted.

“The voters are the ones that win. I don’t win the seat, the voters do. They’re the ones that do the voting. They want me to do a job for them and that’s what I do,” said Germann.

Meanwhile, the outcome was not what Hicks had hoped for. He says while running a campaign is not always easy or fun, he believes, it’s part of something bigger for his personal journey.

“It’s just all God’s will. I appreciate everybody that came out and voted for me. I will have to say that, you know, I think the dirtiness is people stealing signs. Last week, I lost about 15 different signs. And you know, it’s dirty and ugly, but I just rely on the Lord to get me through everything,” said Hicks.

Hicks says he hopes that folks will continue to keep Germann accountable while serving the Pct. 4 seat. Plus, he says he too plans to do his part in serving the public.

“I just hope that people will hold him accountable, hold his feet to the fire because there’s a lot of roads and disrepair. There’s drainage issues out there that need to be addressed. There’s a whole lot of stuff that needs to be addressed and I have the knowledge and the ability and the connections to make those things happen. So, it should be a contest of who is better liked or whether that’s who they want, (It) should be about who is able to provide and do the services that need to be done for our residents. And I’ll continue doing that on the AAMPO board (Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization), bringing projects and getting them funded. So, I’ll continue my part in this endeavor,” said Hicks.

With no Democratic challenger awaiting him in November, Germann will officially retain the seat — beginning his new term on Jan. 1, 2027.
