(Seguin) – Today is Election Day across Guadalupe County as voters head to the polls for the Joint Democratic and Republican Primary Runoff Election.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at all voting locations across Guadalupe County.
Guadalupe County Elections Administrator Cris Perez Garcia says the countywide vote center system is designed to make voting more convenient for residents.
“The county wide voting system allows every eligible voter to select any location that you see on on our list of locations, which makes it very convenient. So if you work across town — are co- are coming back into town from a different city – just choose your the closest location to you,” said Perez Garcia.
County voters may cast a ballot at any of the county’s 38 vote centers regardless of where they live within Guadalupe County.
Perez Garcia is also encouraging voters to review their sample ballots before heading to the polls, especially since she says runoff elections can feature different races depending on party affiliation and precinct.
Perez Garcia is also reminding voters to bring proper identification before arriving at the polls.
“What they need to do before going to the polls is ensure that they come to the polls with a government issued ID. I like to remind the voters that they are not required to come to the office with their voter registration certificate. Government issued ID is sufficient. If they are confused about which election they are voting for, I recommend checking out our website and also giving us a call if they have any questions about that,” said Perez Garcia.
The runoff election includes several high-profile races, including party nominations for the newly created Congressional District 35 seat. Republican voters will decide between John Lujan and Carlos De La Cruz, while Democratic voters will choose between Maureen Galindo and Johnny Garcia.
Locally, Republicans in Guadalupe County will also determine the nominee for the Precinct 4 seat on the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court. Incumbent Stephen Germann faces former Cibolo City Councilman Joel Hicks in that race.
Another closely watched statewide contest is the Republican runoff for U.S. Senate between incumbent John Cornyn and Ken Paxton.
Voters with questions about polling locations, eligibility or ballots may contact the Guadalupe County Elections Office at 830-303-6363. They may also visit the elections office website at Guadalupe County Elections Office.
Live election results can be heard tonight on AM 1580 KWED or online at SeguinToday.com. Results will be provided beginning at 7:05 p.m. and are being brought to listeners by Joe Cool’s Air Conditioning.
