Last day of early voting arrives for May 26 run-off race

Seguin, TX, USA / Seguin Today

(Seguin) — Today marks the final day for Guadalupe County voters to cast their ballots early ahead of Tuesday’s Joint Democratic and Republican Primary Runoff Election.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at all early voting locations across Guadalupe County, including the Guadalupe County Elections Office in Seguin.

Guadalupe County Elections Administrator Cris Perez Garcia says the county has experienced steady traffic during the early voting period, especially at the Seguin location.

“Things are very busy. The main location here at Seguin has been consistently busy. The voting room has received a lot of visits, and the parking lots have been full. It’s been very nice to see that room full and to have visitors in the office,” said Perez Garcia.

County voters may also cast a ballot at any of the other early voting sites regardless of where they live within Guadalupe County. Additional early voting locations include the Cibolo Fire Station No. 2, Redemptive Grace Ministries in New Braunfels, the New Berlin Community Center and the Guadalupe County Elections Office Annex in Schertz.

Perez Garcia says she is also encouraging voters to review their sample ballots before heading to the polls, especially since runoff elections can feature different races depending on party affiliation and precinct.

“With a state election, every voter is eligible to vote in the election. Now, there are specific races, however, and that would mainly have applied to the general March election, the primary. So, in the runoff, I recommend looking at your sample ballot. I recommend calling us if you have any questions, in particular about if you do not see a specific date on your ballot, we do not mind. You can give us a call,” said Perez Garcia.

The runoff election includes several high-profile races, including party nominations for the newly created Congressional District 35 seat. Republican voters will decide between State Rep. John Lujan and businessman Carlos De La Cruz, while Democratic voters will choose between Maureen Galindo and Johnny Garcia.

Locally, Republicans in Guadalupe County will also determine the nominee for the Precinct 4 seat on the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court. Incumbent Stephen Germann faces former Cibolo City Councilman Joel Hicks in that race.

Another closely watched statewide contest is the Republican runoff for U.S. Senate between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Election Day is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26. Voters with questions about polling locations, eligibility or ballots may contact the Guadalupe County Elections Office at 830-303-6363. They may also visit the elections office website at https://www.guadalupetx.gov/page/elections.home.
