(Leander) — The Seguin Matadors saw their 2026 season come to a close Friday night, falling 2-0 to Class 5A No. 1-ranked Leander Rouse in the area round at Rouse High School.
Rouse starter Jack Doss went the distance for the shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out 10 as the Raiders completed a two-game sweep of the series. Matador starter Ethan Tipple nearly matched Doss, tossing a complete game of his own, scattering six hits and surrendering single runs in the third and fourth innings.
Seguin finishes with 27 wins on the year. The Matadors won District 27-5A with a perfect 14-0 record and have gone 27-1 in district play over the last two seasons.
(Seguin) — The Navarro Panthers also saw their season end Friday, falling 5-0 to Wimberley in game two of the Class 4A area round at Navarro High School.
Wimberley completed the sweep after rallying for a 4-3 win in game one at Wimberley last Wednesday. Navarro finishes as District 28-4A champions, going 9-1 in district play and winning 25 games overall this season.
(Bastrop) — The Marion Bulldogs are moving on, completing a dominant sweep of Columbus in the Class 3A area round with a 10-2 win Friday at Bastrop High School.
Marion blew the game open in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs to turn a 1-0 game into a 5-0 lead. Casey Cloud and Huck Schoenvogel each had RBI singles in the inning. Brody Byler doubled home a run with two outs in the fourth, and Mateo Zuniga tripled a run home with two outs in the sixth to cap the scoring.
On the mound, Eli Parker went 5⅔ innings, allowing just two runs to earn the win. Gage Hamilton entered with the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, got the final out of the inning and finished things off with a scoreless seventh.
The Bulldogs have now swept both the bi-district and area rounds and have scored 10 or more runs in each of their last three postseason games. Marion has outscored opponents 36-4 across four playoff games.
Next up for the Bulldogs is Falfurrias in the regional semifinals. The best-of-three series will be played at Victoria Riverside Stadium, with game one Thursday at 6 p.m., game two Friday at 6 p.m. and if a deciding game is needed, Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
