(Seguin) — This Thursday, residents can leave the cooking to the Seguin Noon Lions Club as it hosts its annual Spring Fling fundraiser.
The drive-thru-only event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Seguin Silver Center.
Lions Club member Bill Klingemann says the meal has become a major draw for the community each year.
“We have two major fundraisers each year and the Spring Fling is one where we have this marvelous pork steak dinner. It is made by Next Door Catering. In addition, we have our raffle that goes along with it. But the thing that I think sells the most is the pork steak dinner. I mean, people love that. If we can get you to come once, you’ll come back. It’s a delicious pork steak smothered in a delicious sauce. There are potatoes, and I don’t know how to describe them other than they’re just too good. And then there are the green beans, which are even better. And I don’t like green beans, but I eat them because they’re so great. So, we’re so glad that Next Door Catering is willing to help us out as they have been for many years and provide that delicious pork steak dinner,” said Klingemann.
In addition to the meal, attendees can also participate in a raffle featuring a wide variety of prizes. Klingemann says the group has worked hard to bring folks a great batch of prizes.
“We do have wonderful raffles, and in fact, we kind of took a look at our raffle this year, and we decided —maybe we were a little stagnant there. Maybe we needed to do some things. So, we’ve upped some prizes, gotten some new things. We’ve gotten, I think, something for everybody. Of course, the lead prize is a dinner for 50 people donated by Next Door Catering. Then, we’ve got $1,000 from Dedicated Lions, $300 from First United Bank. Then we’ve got gift certificates for Starke Furniture. We’ve got a one-year membership to Pic and Pac Car Wash. We have jewelry from various people, gift certificates, purses — we’ve got all kinds of things. We have a trip to the zoo. We have power tools and we were lucky enough to get Kitty Keller to give us a squirrel that’s actually a special bonus prize that we added to (the raffle) after we’d printed up the tickets. But don’t worry, you’re still entitled to that. And we sell those tickets for $20 for a book of five, or they’re $5 each, whichever one you would like,” said Klingemann.
Proceeds from the Spring Fling help support the Lions Club’s ongoing community service projects in Seguin including its KidSight program which helps provide free eye screenings to local children.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Presale tickets can be purchased from any Noon Lions Club member.
The Silver Center is located at 510 East Court Street.
