Six Seguin High School senior athletes sign college letters of intent

Six Seguin High School seniors signed college letters of intent at a signing day at the high school on May 4, 2026.

(Seguin) — Six Seguin High School seniors made their college decisions official Monday morning, signing with their respective programs at a ceremony held at the high school.

Gisele Morales signed with the University of Dallas volleyball program. Morales plans to study biology, though she says she’s still exploring her options. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue her athletic career at the next level.

“It’s a private Catholic school, so I’m really excited to stay stronger in my faith throughout this whole journey,” Morales said. “I got this great opportunity and I’m so blessed. I’m grateful to go play volleyball. I’m so excited!”

Brylee Wieding signed with Oklahoma Wesleyan University’s softball program, where she plans to study psychology or nursing. Wieding credited Eagles head coach Shawn Woods as a key factor in her decision.

“I went to a lot of camps and he actually found me,” Wieding said. “We were at my hometown fields and he just walked up to me and made me an offer. I told him I would think about it, and then the next game I hit a grand slam and he said, ‘Okay, now you have to come.’ So I visited, and it was perfect. I really love it there.”

Hunter Mica is joining the UTSA powerlifting team, where he plans to study kinesiology with hopes of becoming a strength and conditioning coach. A standout defensive lineman for the Matador football team, Mica says he discovered a genuine passion for powerlifting along the way.

“My plan was to keep playing football, but every day I went to powerlifting practice, I had fun. At the meets, I had fun,” Mica said. “I found enjoyment in it and I want to keep doing it. The path changed, and I’m just grateful to still keep doing it.”

Cordel Leon will attend Texas A&M-Kingsville, where he will compete for the Javelinas in track and field as a high jumper. Leon plans to study criminal justice, with long-term goals of joining the Air Force and pursuing a career in business management. He reflected on his time at Seguin High School.

“Being here with the family and doing everything that I could — personal records, being around my coaches, all the teammates that supported me here in Seguin,” Leon said. “It was just great being here.”

Elliott Weaver will also join the Javelinas’ track program at A&M-Kingsville, where he plans to study business, finance, and marketing. Weaver explained what drew him to the program.

“I really like the campus and the environment,” Weaver said. “Their track team has been to national championships, and their coach puts in a lot of effort for the athletes. I feel like I’ll be really close to them, and they’ll help me get to a better place in the future.”

Will Gray Mahaffey rounds out the signing class with a baseball commitment to A&M-Kingsville. Mahaffey plans to study business, with aspirations of becoming a business owner after his playing days are over. The Matador catcher spoke about the bond he shares with his Matador teammates and fellow pitchers.

“I just love all of them, really,” Mahaffey said. “We understand each other and we can work together as a team. We’re like a band of brothers. We’ve been playing since we were little, and I think it’s a special bond that we have.”

Mahaffey and his Matador teammates continue their postseason run this week, facing Leander Rouse in the UIL area round. That best-of-three series is scheduled to begin Thursday.
