UPDATE: Seguin Road Rage Suspect Captured, Children Found Safe After Overnight Search

(Seguin) — A Seguin man accused in a road rage shooting and an hours-long standoff is now in custody, and authorities say all three of his children have been found safe.

The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office says Justin Gutierrez was arrested early this morning after deputies, along with officers from the Seguin Police Department, located him in the 700 block of Stratton Oaks in Seguin. Investigators say multiple community tips led officers to Gutierrez’s location. He was taken into custody without incident, and officials say no one was injured during the arrest.

Gutierrez was booked on warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Investigators say additional charges could be filed as the case remains under investigation.

The arrest comes after a chaotic series of events that began around 4 p.m. Monday in the 700 block of Old Seguin-Luling Road. According to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office, the case began as a suspected road rage encounter along Interstate 10 – when Gutierrez and his wife were reportedly followed home from San Antonio by another driver.

Investigators say when the two vehicles arrived at Gutierrez’s home, Gutierrez allegedly fired multiple rounds into the other driver’s vehicle. The victim was struck and suffered a graze wound to the head. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was stable enough to speak with investigators.

Authorities say Gutierrez then dropped his wife off at the home and left with his three children, later driving to a second residence in the 200 block of East Pine Street. That sparked a heavy law enforcement response Monday evening after deputies believed Gutierrez had barricaded himself inside the home with the children.

Deputies and negotiators remained at the Pine Street home for hours during what became a nearly eight-hour standoff. But after entering and searching the residence, investigators discovered Gutierrez and the children were no longer inside. That’s when authorities then shifted their focus to locating Gutierrez and safely recovering the children.

Anyone who might have witnessed the incident or who has information is urged to contact the Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers at 1-877-403-8477 (TIPS). They can also submit an anonymous tip online at guadalupecountycrimestoppers.org. All tips can be submitted anonymously and may be eligible for a cash reward.
