(San Antonio) — The Seguin Lady Matadors clubbed three home runs Friday night, cruising to a 10-1 victory over San Antonio Southwest to complete a two-game sweep of the Lady Dragons in the Class 5A UIL bi-district round.

Marissa Torrence got the Lady Mats on the board first, hitting her second leadoff home run of the series. Seguin then sent five runs across in the second inning, with Zayetzy Gonzalez adding a two-run blast to push the lead to 6-0. Celeste Arroyo capped the scoring in the seventh with a solo shot — her second home run of both the series and the season — to account for the final margin of 10-1.

Torrence went the distance in the circle, striking out four and allowing just one earned run on five hits while picking up her second win of the series.

The Lady Matadors advance to the area round, where they will face Leander. The Lady Lions — who eliminated Seguin in the second round a year ago — punched their ticket by knocking out New Braunfels for the second consecutive year. The best-of-three series opens Thursday in Leander.

(Seguin) — The Navarro Lady Panthers saw their season end Friday night with a 7-6 loss to the Devine Arabians in Game 2 of their Class 4A bi-district series.

Navarro catcher Shelbi Stevens contributed a double and a triple in the loss. The senior had already homered twice in Game 1 — a 12-8 setback — and she finished the season with 19 home runs, breaking her own single-season record for the third consecutive year after setting new marks in her sophomore and junior seasons.

Devine advances to face Wimberley in the area round.

(Yoakum) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs are headed to the area round after topping Crystal City 4-3 in a one-game bi-district playoff last Thursday.

Marion will now face Columbus in a best-of-three series, with Games 1 and 2 scheduled for Wednesday in Yoakum. A deciding Game 3, if necessary, will be played Thursday in Marion.
