(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matadors face the Southwest Lady Dragons in game one of a best-of-three Class 5A bi-district series tonight on KWED.
The two teams met in this same round a year ago, with the Lady Matadors winning the series two games to one. Seguin enters the postseason as District 27-5A co-champions alongside San Antonio Burbank, with both teams finishing 11-1 in district play.
Brylee Wieding paces the Lady Matadors with eight home runs and a .500 batting average. Marissa Torrence leads the team with a .529 average, while Erin Johnston tops Seguin in runs scored with 42 and is second on the team with six home runs.
Lady Matador head coach Terrie Nowlin feels her team is ready for this year’s rematch with the Lady Dragons.
“I think we are primed and ready to go. We’ve prepared as much as possible,” Nowlin said. “We’ve been preparing for this since August. We have seen Southwest, but I think we’re looking at two totally different teams this year.
“Our team is completely different. We’re led by some veterans, but we also have some young blood in there. And so, I think that’s added to the mix and helped us level up a little bit.”
First pitch in tonight’s game one is set for 7 p.m. at Matador Legends Ballpark. Game two is Friday at 7 p.m. at Southwest High School. If a game three is needed, it will be played Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at the SAISD Sports Complex.
We’ll have all the Lady Matador bi-district playoff games on KWED. Tonight’s Seguin softball pregame from Legends Ballpark starts at 6:45 on AM 1580 KWED and streaming at SeguinToday-dot-com.
(Devine) — The Navarro Lady Panthers open first-round playoff action tonight against Devine in a best-of-three series, with game one at 7 p.m. in Devine.
Game two returns to Navarro High School on Friday at 7 p.m. If a game three is necessary, it will be played Saturday at 3 p.m. at the SAISD Sports Complex. Should the Lady Panthers and Arabians go three games, we’ll have game three on KWED.
