(San Antonio) — The Seguin Matadors shut out San Antonio Brackenridge 6-0 on the road Thursday.
Ethan Tipple earned the win, going six innings and allowing four hits while striking out six. Samuel Edwards closed out the game with two strikeouts in a scoreless seventh inning.
The Mats added insurance with three runs in the top of the sixth, in a two-out rally. Tipple helped his own cause with a run-scoring triple.
Seguin is now a perfect 8-0 in District 27-5A. The Matadors have won 10 straight and stand at 20-8 overall. They’ll host San Antonio Edison on Tuesday.
(San Antonio) — The Seguin Lady Matador softball team blasted Brackenridge 27-2 in a three-inning run-rule victory Thursday in San Antonio.
Celeste Arroyo and Brylee Wieding each scored four runs for the Lady Mats. Marissa Torrence and Erin Johnston each crossed the plate three times. Kaelyn Gutierrez got the start in the circle, tossing two innings with two strikeouts. Vida Hernandez threw a scoreless inning in relief.
The Lady Matadors are 9-0 in district play with three games remaining in the regular season. Seguin hosts Edison on Tuesday.
(Gonzales) — The Navarro Lady Panthers fell 16-1 in a four-inning run-rule defeat at Gonzales on Thursday.
The Lady Panthers will host San Antonio Kennedy on Tuesday at the new Navarro High School. The game will be the first game held at the new school.
(La Vernia) — The Navarro Panthers took down the District 28-4A leader Thursday, outslugging La Vernia 11-7 to hand the Bears their first district loss.
Austin Davidson homered for Navarro, while Bayley Burgess drove in three runs. Noah Rosas had a huge game with four hits and two RBIs. The win created a three-way tie for first place in District 28-4A, with Navarro, La Vernia, and Cuero all now 4-1 in district play.
Thursday’s game was originally scheduled to be played in Geronimo but moved to La Vernia due to rain. The teams meet again Tuesday at the new Navarro High School in the first baseball game ever played there. We’ll have that game on KWED.
(Universal City) — The Marion Bulldogs improved to 6-0 in District 27-3A with a 10-0 win at Randolph on Thursday.
Kade Pape had a monster game — four hits, including two doubles, and five RBIs. Eli Parker and Gage Hamilton combined on a five-inning run-rule shutout. The Bulldogs also blanked the Ro-Hawks 10-0 in five innings on Monday. Huck Schoenvogel threw a five-inning no-hitter in that victory.
Marion moved into sole possession of first place after Jourdanton fell to Cole on Thursday. The Bulldogs play at Great Hearts Northern Oaks on Tuesday.
(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldog softball team took down New Braunfels Thunder 13-4 in a non-district game at Marion High School on Thursday.
Cambry Dojahn led the way with four hits and four RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs. Marion, 2-2 in District 27-3A, will host Cole on Tuesday.
