SEGUIN, Texas — The No. 5 Texas Lutheran softball team (24-3, 16-1) completed the series sweep over Schreiner (8-20, 5-13) with a pair of run-rule victories on Saturday. The Bulldogs won game one 8-0 in six innings before finishing the sweep with a 12-4 victory in five innings. The Bulldogs won every game of the series by run rule, outscoring the Mountaineers 35-4 on the weekend.

Junior Cady Bowyer (Fulshear/Jordan) homered and drove in two runs as the Bulldogs run-ruled Schreiner in game one.

The Bulldogs recorded their 12th shutout and ninth run-rule win with the blanking of the Mountaineers in Saturday’s first contest.

Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI, BB) hit a “walk-off” two-run double in the sixth to punctuate the win and cap a ten-hit day from the TLU lineup. With the two-RBI double, Gonzalez moved into second in SCAC history with 159 career RBI, passing DePauw’s Rachel Gill (158).

Caelee Clark (Montgomery/Lake Creek), Riley Davila (Angleton/Angleton), and Ashley McMahon (Las Vegas, NV/Durango) led the Bulldogs with two hits each with Clark scoring a team-high three runs. All eight runs came courtesy of the Bulldogs first five in the lineup with Bowyer, Gonzalez, and Taylor Vannett (Kingwood/Kingwood) all driving in two runs. After combining to score 10 runs and go 10-for-12 with three walks in the series opener, the first five was 6-for-14 with six runs scored, three walks, and eight RBI.

Jordyn Joy (Kerrville/Tivy) struck out three across 4.0 scoreless innings of work, improving to 6-1 on the year. She scattered four hits while not allowing any walks.

Davila opened the scoring with an RBI double down the left field line in the first. Texas Lutheran added three more in the third courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Taylor Vannett and a two-run homer from Cady Bowyer.

The Bulldogs pushed the lead to 5-0 on an RBI fielder’s choice from Caelee Clark.

Katelyn Howard (Waller/Hempstead) entered in the fifth and posted two shutout frames despite allowing three hits. Mia Landry (Cypress/Bridgeland) led off the home half of the sixth with a pinch-hit walk before Harleigh Russell (Fort Worth/Boswell) re-entered to steal second and third. A bunt single from Clark and a Davila hit by pitch loaded the bases for Vannett who worked a bases loaded free pass to make it 6-0 Bulldogs. Gonzalez provided the “walk-off” win with a two-RBI double off the top of the left center wall to plate Clark and Davila.

Texas Lutheran finished the three-game sweep with a 12-4 run-rule win in five innings in the series finale.

Senior Caelee Clark led the charge with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a walk, two stolen bases and two runs batted in, while junior Cady Bowyer walked it off in run-rule fashion with an RBI double. A day after Davila matched the single-game program record for runs scored, Clark matched it as well with four runs scord in the series finale.

Schreiner showed signs of life in the first, scoring their first runs of the weekend on a two-run homer to take their first lead of the series. The homer is the first one allowed by TLU starter Jordyn Stuessy (Garden Ridge/Davenport) in 2026.

Texas Lutheran quickly cut the lead in half on an RBI single from Taylor Vannett in the bottom of the inning that allowed Clark to race home.

In the second inning, Clark continued her weekend tear against Schreiner as she hit a two-RBI single up the middle to give TLU a 3-2 lead. RBI singles from Vannett and Gonzalez put TLU up three.

Schreiner got a run back in the third on a sacrifice fly before TLU further opened things up with a sacrifice fly from Vannett and an RBI single from Gonzalez.

Schreiner tacked on another run in the top of the fifth with an RBI fielder’s choice. Texas Lutheran responded immediately, plating five runs on five hits and three Mountaineer errors to take the run-rule win. Ashley McMahon and Harleigh Russell scored on Mountaineer errors before an RBI groundout from Davila scored Brey Jones (San Antonio/Brennan) before the Mountaineers threw the throw home to the backstop to score Caelee Clark. Bowyer sent the Ed Kruse Stadium crowd home happy with a “walk-off” double.

With the doubleheader victory, Texas Lutheran won their 81st straight SCAC conference series, dating back to joining the conference in 2014.

Clark led TLU with the 3-for-3 performance and finished the weekend 8-for-10 (.800) with seven stolen bases, ten runs scored and three RBIs. Four other Bulldogs registered multi-hit games with Vannett also having three hits and Gonzalez and Chesley Swisher (Cypress/Bridgeland) recording two base hits. Swisher hit 1.000 for the week in four official at-bats across the three games.

In the circle, Jamie Burch (Sinton/Sinton) went 2.1 innings in relief to earn her first collegiate win and move to 1-0 on the season, giving up one unearned run on three hits. Sophomore Kezia Alvear (Kyle/Hays) finished things with a scoreless frame in the fifth.
On the year, TLU is outscoring the opposition 225-59 with a nation-leading 148 stolen bases.

The Bulldogs travel to Centenary College to begin a three-game SCAC series in in Shreveport, Louisiana on Thursday, April 2. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM. All three games will stream on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
