(Seguin) – Today is Election Day. Voters across Guadalupe County are making their way to the polls for the March 3, 2026 Joint Primary Election. This election decides the candidates who will be appearing in the November ballot.
That’s according to Interim Elections Administrator Michelle Shields.
“The Primary Election – this is going to be whoever wins on this is going to be the person who is on the November ballot. So, again in the Primaries, you do have to select a party. So you either have to do the Democratic Party or the Republican Party but then in November, you can vote however you like in November,” said Shields.
Unlike the general election, primary voters must choose which party’s ballot they wish to cast when they check in — either Republican or Democratic.
Shields say that choice determines which races and candidates appear on their ballot for this election only and if in case there is a runoff later this spring.
To help choose their ballot, Shields encourages voters to do a little work before arriving at the polls.
“They would have to do that research so I would say research. Call your party chairs if you need to but that would be the best thing and like I said, get that sample ballot – that helps you to kind of research ahead of time before you come,” said Shields. Those sample ballots are available on the Guadalupe County Elections website.
Today, Guadalupe County will utilize Vote Centers, allowing any registered county voter to cast a ballot at any of the county’s 38 polling locations, regardless of their home precinct. Polling sites are open today from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., providing flexibility and convenience for voters across the county.
Shields reminds voters to bring an approved photo ID, such as a Texas driver’s license, Texas personal identification card, handgun license, military ID, or passport. Voters who do not have proper identification may cast a provisional ballot but must present valid ID at the Seguin Elections Office within six days after Election Day for their vote to count.
She also notes that cellphones are not permitted inside voting rooms. Paper sample ballots are allowed, but political signs, campaign apparel, or materials are prohibited within 100 feet of a polling location entrance.
Voters with questions are encouraged to contact the Guadalupe County Elections Office at 830-303-4188 or visit the county’s elections website.
