SEGUIN, Texas — Senior designated player Serena Gonzalez (Corpus Christi/Foy H. Moody) of the No. 8-ranked Texas Lutheran softball team was named Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Hitter of the Week after helping the Bulldogs secure a Top 25 SCAC series win over No. 19 St. Thomas, the conference announced Monday.
This marks Gonzalez’s fourth career SCAC weekly honor. Gonzalez finished with seven hits (7-for-10) and four runs batted in and hit her first home run of the season in the three-game series. The Corpus Christi native recorded multiple hits in all three games of the series.
In game one, she went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored on Friday. On Saturday, she went a combined 5-for-7 with two doubles, a home run, a walk, three RBI, and two runs scored. With her RBI double in game three, Gonzalez tied Taylor Yancey for the program record for RBI with 141 in her career, ranking fifth in SCAC history.
Texas Lutheran continues its homestand with a three-game series against LeTourneau at Ed Kruse Stadium, Feb. 27-28. First pitch of Friday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 5 PM. All three games will stream on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
