Teen killed in NB shooting, juvenile suspect in Guadalupe County custody

(New Braunfels) – A juvenile suspect is in the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center following the shooting death of another teen in New Braunfels.

New Braunfels Police officials say a 16-year-old male is dead and two suspects have been arrested following a shooting Thursday evening on Saengerhalle Road.

At approximately 6 p.m. on February 19, officers with the New Braunfels Police Department and the New Braunfels Fire Department were dispatched to the area after receiving multiple reports of gunshots. Callers told dispatchers they heard several shots fired and saw individuals fleeing from a residence.

When officers arrived, they located a 16-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders immediately began lifesaving measures, but the teen was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Shortly after, investigators learned that an 18-year-old male had been dropped off at Resolute Health Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was later transferred to University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Following an extensive investigation that included multiple interviews, video review, and the collection of key evidence, detectives say they identified two primary suspects.

Police say Jayce Cooper, 18, was identified as the shooter of the deceased teen. Investigators believe Cooper was shot by the victim during the altercation before being transported to the hospital. A warrant for Capital Murder was issued for Cooper. He remains in custody at University Hospital and is expected to be transferred to Bexar County Jail upon his release.

A 16-year-old suspect was also identified as being present and involved in the altercation. The juvenile was detained, charged with Capital Murder, and transferred to the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center.

The investigation remains ongoing with additional arrests or charges expected. Police are also working to identify any other individuals who may have information related to the incident.

Those who might know more are asked to contact the New Braunfels Police Department at 830-221-4100.
