(Comal County) — A Comal County jury has sentenced 42-year-old Jarrod Kirkus of Guadalupe County to life in prison after convicting him on 19 counts of sexual crimes against children, including sexual assault, child trafficking, child pornography and online solicitation of a minor.
Officials say the verdict concludes a case that spanned several years and involved multiple victims. Prosecutors detailed a pattern of abuse that included both in-person assaults and crimes committed online.
Kirkus, described in court as a repeat offender, had a criminal history in Bexar County and Comal County dating back to 2003.
With the life sentence, he will remain incarcerated permanently.
The case also brought scrutiny to the role of a child’s mother, who was arrested in 2023 for facilitating the assault of her then 6-year-old child and recording it. Authorities say her actions contributed to the abuse prosecutors outlined during trial.
Parents of the victims expressed relief following the sentencing but said the emotional impact on their children remains profound.
