(Seguin) — Do you drive one of the Top 10 most stolen vehicles in Texas? In partnership with the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority, officials are sharing the latest information on the most frequently stolen vehicles across Texas to help drivers better protect their property.
Recent trends show that pickup trucks and popular commuter vehicles continue to be targeted most often by auto thieves. According to previous statewide auto theft reports, the following vehicles are consistently among the most stolen in Texas:
• Chevrolet Silverado
• GMC Sierra
• Ford F-150
• Hyundai Elantra
• Hyundai Sonata
• Ford F-250
• Ram 1500
• Chevrolet Tahoe
• Kia Optima
• Toyota Camry
Authorities say thieves often target vehicles that are widely owned, easy to resell, or have high-demand parts. Pickup trucks in particular remain attractive due to their popularity across the state and their resale value.
Law enforcement officials encourage Texans to take simple but effective steps to reduce the risk of theft:
Always lock your vehicle and take your keys with you, as many thefts occur because vehicles were left unlocked.
Never leave your vehicle running unattended, even for a quick errand.
Park in well-lit, busy areas whenever possible.
Keep valuables out of sight to avoid drawing attention.
Consider adding anti-theft devices such as alarms, steering wheel locks, or GPS tracking systems.
Ask about VIN etching, which engraves your vehicle identification number on the glass and can deter theft while making stolen parts harder to sell.
Officials emphasize that prevention plays a critical role in reducing auto theft statewide. By staying informed and taking a few precautions, drivers can significantly lower their chances of becoming a victim and help protect their communities.
