Soup Social returns to Seguin Smiles

(Seguin) — Bowls will be simmering tonight with some good old friendly competition as Seguin Smiles hosts its annual Soup Social. What has become a community favorite will again return after hours to the local dental office. The event initially invited participants to submit their best soup recipes at a chance to be featured on tonight’s menu for the Soup Social.

Dr. Janice Weinman, of Seguin Smiles, says the tradition of bringing together homemade recipes and conversation continues to grow each year, with strong participation from across the community.

“We have selected our five (recipes) for this year. They won through a Facebook contest, and we are looking forward to serving those. It is definitely a unique event. We don’t know anybody else that has a Soup Social in the world. I’m sure there is probably somebody, but it seems to be very unique to us, and we enjoy it because we get to number one, socialize with all kinds of wonderful people and we get to serve our community these wonderful soups,” said Dr. Weinman.

Dr. Weinman says ingredients for each of the five chosen recipes are already prepped and ready to go for tonight’s tasting.

“This year, we are serving Chicken Alfredo Soup. We are also going to serve Wendy Parker’s (Baked) Potato Soup and then Chicken Gnocchi and then Keto Smoked Sausage Cheddar Beer Soup and Weddin Soup. So, it’s quite a variety and all sound very delicious especially with us having all of this cold weather so come and get a copy of one of these recipes and then when we get another cold snap, you are ready to serve up some wonderful soup for your family,” said Dr. Weinman.

Dr. Weinman says not only are guests invited to stop by tonight and grab some soup for free but they, like the recipe winner, will get the chance to score some great prizes.

“The people that attend the Soup Social go through and taste the soups and are allowed to vote for their favorite soup and whoever gets the most votes at the Soup Social wins the Taster’s Choice Award and then of course, we also have opportunities for those attending to win – we have lots of great gift certificates. I believe we are featuring The Varsity Vault this year, Schulze’s Pit Room, Academy and I think we’ve even got some HEB gift cards — so something for everyone to win,” said Dr. Weinman.

Tonight’s event will also give attendees a chance to learn more about services offered at Seguin Smiles. Attendance prizes will also be awarded every 15 minutes. However, guests must be present to win.

The Seguin Smiles Soup Social runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seguin Smiles located at 1460 Eastwood Drive.
