SEGUIN, Texas — #RV Texas Lutheran Women’s Basketball improved to 11-4 (6-0 SCAC), claiming a win after a late-game comeback over McMurry at Memorial Gymnasium in a rematch of the 2025 NCAA Tournament Second Round. The Bulldogs overcame a 12-point fourth quarter deficit in the home victory in a game that turned out to be an instant classic.

With the win, TLU, winners of seven straight ball games, is also 6-0 to begin SCAC play for the third time in program history joining Patterson’s inaugural squad in 2021-22 and last year’s 2024-25 team.

Senior Lauren Sansano (San Antonio/FEAST) had a team-high 21 points in the win over the War Hawks (11-3, 5-1 SCAC). The point guard grabbed four rebounds and dished out three assists in nearly 35 minutes of action.

Redshirt junior Davi’Yanna Jones (San Antonio/Stevens) scored 14 points and grabbed ten rebounds for her second double-double of the season. A day after having a career night, Hannah Gallegos (San Antonio/Harlan) once again finished in double figures, adding 12 points – all from beyond the arc – and three assists. Freshman Laura Sierra (San Antonio/St. Anthony Catholic) finished with a career-high ten points and four rebounds and Sarahi Jones (Los Fresnos/Los Fresnos) was the final Bulldog in double figures with ten points alongside seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs were scrappy in the first quarter and came away up 16-11 on the War Hawks. Gallegos scored six points on 2-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc and grabbed three rebounds. She was also setting up her teammates with two assists in the period. Sansano, Sarahi Jones, Davi’Yanna Jones, and Noelani Ajel (Cibolo/Steele) also scored in the quarter.

McMurry found offensive success in the second quarter and outscored TLU 27-16. Sarahi Jones led the Bulldogs with six points in the quarter. Sansano finished the quarter with five points, while Jones and Gallegos also hit shots in the quarter. TLU went into halftime down 38-32.

Neither team was able to gain an advantage in the third quarter as the two teams scored 20 points each as the War Hawks carried a six-point, 58-52 lead into the fourth. Sierra and Sansano scored four points each to lead the Bulldogs in the period. Sarahi Jones added two points and four rebounds.

TLU outscored McMurry 22-13 in the final quarter to pick up its seventh straight SCAC win dating back to last season. Sansano led the team in scoring with ten points, going 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Sierra, who’s previous career-high was six points, scored a critical six points down the stretch, while Davi’Yanna Jones scored five points and grabbed seven boards to earn her double-double. The game went down to the wire and was tied with one minute remaining. Davi’Yanna Jones hit a trio of clutch free throws in the game’s final 22 seconds to put the Bulldogs ahead. The intense battle was tied four times and saw six lead changes before the Bulldogs came away victorious.

The Bulldogs will travel to Longview, Texas, to face off against LeTourneau on Friday, Jan. 23. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM. The game will be streamed on FloCollege. All streaming and live stats links will be available on tlubulldogs.com.
