High school basketball: Wiatrek and Castellanos lead Marion girls to win over Karnes City

(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs held off Karnes City 35-33 on Tuesday at Marion High School.

The Lady Bulldogs built a 10-point halftime lead and led by eight heading into the fourth quarter before withstanding a late rally by the Lady Badgers. Junior Whitley Wiatrek led Marion with 17 points, while junior Caylee Castellanos added eight.

The Lady Bulldogs improve to 13-10 on the season. They have two games remaining in their non-district schedule, including a trip to Poth on Friday. Marion opens District 27-3A play on January 9th at Young Women’s Leadership Academy.

(Seguin) — Today’s Seguin girls basketball game against San Antonio Jefferson has been canceled.

The Lady Mustangs forfeited the contest. The Lady Matadors are now 4-2 in District 27-5A and will next play at San Antonio Edison on Tuesday.

(San Antonio) — The Seguin Matador boys, 1-2 in district, play at Jefferson today. Tip off is set for 11:30 this morning at San Antonio Jefferson High School.

(Luling) — The Navarro Panthers wrap up play today at the Luling Holiday Classic.

(Corpus Christi) — And the Marion Bulldogs conclude their schedule today at the Pride of Texas tournament at Tuloso-Midway High School in Corpus Christi.

SEGUIN, Texas — Texas Lutheran defeated Lycoming College 82-67 Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium in the team’s final non-conference game this season

Isaac Orozco hit five three-pointers en route to a career-high 17 points. Orozco shot 5-of-6 from beyond the arc and 6-of-7 overall while adding five rebounds and four assists.

The Bulldogs return to action on New Year’s Day, visiting Concordia for their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
