Faith Lutheran Church to host drive-through living Nativity

(Seguin) — Faith Lutheran Church is inviting the community to experience the story of Christmas through a Drive-Through Living Nativity on Saturday, Dec. 20, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the church campus. The free event will feature live music, live animals and actors portraying scenes that lead up to the birth of Jesus Christ, offering families a meaningful and accessible way to celebrate the season.

That’s according to Kim Kauitzsch, children’s ministry leader at Faith Lutheran Church. Kauitzsch says the event has become a cherished tradition for the congregation and the community alike.

“This is our fifth or sixth year to do it. Our youth pastor actually started it. One of our congregation members had done it up in her congregation in the North and so we started it and it’s just a chance to share the true meaning of Christmas and Jesus’ birth with the community and our own congregation members,” said Kauitzsch.

Kauitzsch explained that the drive-through format allows families to enjoy the nativity from the comfort of their vehicles while still engaging fully with the story being told.

“It is, I believe, the only drive through here in Seguin. So, it’s a chance for you to stay in your car and drive through our east parking lot and we are going to have seven stations that lead up to the stable and Jesus’ birth. We are going to hand out some candy canes, and we are actually going to have a flier that has the Scriptures on them but there will also be signs that depict where in the Bible you find that scene or station,” said Kauitzsch.

To ensure traffic flows smoothly and safely, Kauitzsch says the church has coordinated additional parking and volunteers to guide visitors through the experience.

“We are going to try to keep people off of the roadway so if you come and there is a line of cars, we are going to ask that they go through the Goldie Harris parking lot. The high school is being generous enough to let us use their lot and we are going to have people out there guiding you through that so we can keep you off the street,” said Kauitzsch.

Kauitzsch added that the event is especially meaningful for the church’s youth, many of whom eagerly look forward to participating each year.

“My youth love doing it every year. They get excited because they want to dress up and share the story and I just feel like there has been more of a reception the last several years. The years when we were out at the Big Red Barn, they got to do a hayride and that was a lot of fun but the kids just love being a part of it. Some of them have grown up doing it and we have some even adults who will step in if need be so it’s just a great way to share the love of Jesus with our community,” said Kauitzsch.

The Saturday night Drive-Through Living Nativity is free and open to all. The church is located at 1326 E. Cedar St. across from Seguin High School.
