(Seguin) – Today is the big day!!!
Seguin Radio KWED will ring in the 25th anniversary of its Holiday Food & Toy Drive with a new location and a new collection item, and all for the sole purpose of helping local families during the holidays.
The two-hour collection drive will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. on the front lawn of the Guadalupe County Courthouse. The event has officially moved downtown after years of being staged outside our studios here at 609 E. Court St. Our media team believes the change allows for more space, easier traffic flow, and room for performances and expanded donation areas.
This year also brings a new opportunity for giving. Thanks to Beck & Beck Buick GMC, new or gently used winter coats will be accepted on top of the already wide list of items needed.
And the needs are big this holiday season.
Food donations are especially encouraged, along with new, unwrapped toys. But KWED reminds residents that the drive also accepts a variety of everyday items such as toiletries, laundry detergent, recyclable bags, egg cartons, used wrapping paper, ribbon, scissors, bows, name tags, fresh vegetables—and of course, cash, checks, or even spare coins.
In fact, Boxes and bags have already been stacking up this week inside the radio station lobby.
KWED News Director Cindy Aguirre-Herrera says anything helps and it all stays local.
“Seguin always shows up, and we can’t wait to see everyone tomorrow morning. Just remember—find us at the courthouse instead of the radio station this year!” said Aguirre-Herrera.
Aguirre-Herrera says the move downtown reflects the event’s growth and the community’s generosity.
“We want tomorrow to feel festive, joyful, and easy for families to swing through. Bring what you can, and if your workplace has been collecting items, come represent them. Let us know you’re donating, and we’ll give your business, school, or organization the shoutout it deserves on the air,” said Aguirre-Herrera.
The drive benefits the Seguin Police Department Blue Santa Program and the Christian Cupboard. All donations directly support local families and stay right here in Seguin and Guadalupe County.
Musical performances will add to the holiday mood Friday morning, with the Seguin High School Matador Band performing from 7 to 8 a.m., followed by the Navarro Jazz Band and the Navarro Intermediate School Choir from 8 to 9 a.m.
Aguirre-Herrera says Friday’s collection is made possible by a long list of local partners who donate money, labor, equipment, food, and support.
“This isn’t just a radio event—it’s a community-wide lift. Our sponsors and volunteers put their hearts into this day. They are the reason Seguin makes such a big impact in such a short amount of time,” said Aguirre-Herrera.
Those who can’t attend Friday’s drive can still drop off donations here at the KWED lobby Mondays–Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
