Annual food, toy drive moves to Guadalupe County Courthouse this Friday
(Seguin) – Seguin Radio KWED is inviting the community to help make its 25th annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive even more special.
With only four more days to go, KWED is reminding the community to grab a toy and/or some canned foods while out and about.
This Friday, Dec. 5 marks the silver anniversary of the event which benefits both the Seguin Police Department Blue Santa Program and Christian Cupboard. New this year will also be the collection of new or gently used winter coats by Beck & Beck Buick GMC.
Adding to the celebration, as announced earlier, will be the relocation of the community wide event. The drive, which for years has been held outside the radio station at the corner of Court and San Marcos Streets will move to the front of the Guadalupe County Courthouse in downtown Seguin. The drive will be held from 7 to 9 a.m.
KWED General Manager Darren Dunn says the food and toy drive has grown each year that organizers determined the station site could no longer support the expanding crowds, morning performances, and steady traffic of donors.
He says the courthouse grounds provide the space and accessibility the event now requires, making it easier for drivers to pull in, donate, and keep moving.
According to KWED, the mission of the drive remains unchanged. Volunteers will also accept monetary donations throughout the morning. Rolling up their sleeves to accept your donations will be Seguin and Guadalupe County’s VIPs.
A host of businesses and schools will also be lending their support either through donations, sponsorships or live performances.
Performing live from 7 to 8 a.m. will be the Seguin High School Matador Band. The Navarro Jazz Band and the Navarro Intermediate School Choir will also be performing live from 8 to 9 a.m.
Business partnerships helping to make this year’s event possible include Premier Steel Solutions, Seguin Leads, Beck &Beck Buick GMC, Factory A/C Direct, Chick-fil-A, Seguin Walmart, Su Casa Café, Beyond Coffee, Furniture Warehouse, TriCity Distributors and Heideke’s Country Kennels.
Those unable to make it but who would like to still donate are encouraged to drop off items in the KWED lobby Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
