Wiatrek and Rabenaldt lead Marion Lady Bulldogs past Rocksprings

Marion junior Whitley Wiatrek

(Marion) — Bouncing back from Monday’s loss, the Marion Lady Bulldogs returned to their winning ways with a 37-32 victory over Rocksprings on Tuesday at Marion High School.

Marion led wire-to-wire, building a double-digit lead in the first half and maintaining control throughout. Junior Whitley Wiatrek poured in 20 points to pace the Lady Bulldogs, while senior Shadie Rabenaldt added seven.

First-year Marion girls coach Lucas Chapman discussed the duo after the win.

“They’re two of our better ballhandlers, so we’re trying to put the ball in their hands and let them play a little bit,” Chapman said. “They do a good job, especially Shadie, of distributing the ball and finding open people.”

The Lady Bulldogs improve to 4-1 on the season. They’ll be off for the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to action next Tuesday at Somerset.

In other Tuesday action:

(Marion) — The Marion boys came up short against BigTyme Sports Prep Academy, falling 52-38 at Marion High School. The Bulldogs will host Poth next Tuesday.

(San Antonio) — The Seguin Matador boys dropped a road contest at San Antonio MacArthur, 47-40.

Senior Tavien Miles led all scorers with 16 points. The Matadors travel to New Braunfels Canyon next Tuesday.

(Victoria) — The Seguin Lady Matadors fell on the road at Victoria West, 58-27. The Seguin girls are back on the road next Tuesday at New Braunfels Long Creek.

(Geronimo) — And the Navarro boys improved to 3-0 on the season after dispatching Young Men’s Leadership Academy, 58-41. The Panthers will look to stay undefeated when they host San Antonio Burbank next Tuesday.
