(Seguin) – A North Texas man has found himself behind bars here in Seguin. A routine traffic stop late Friday night led to the discovery of more than two pounds of black tar heroin. That’s according to the Seguin Police Department.
Officials say that at approximately 9:50 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, a K9 officer with the department’s Traffic Safety Unit pulled over a Ram 1500 near Mile Marker 613 on Interstate 10 West for multiple traffic violations.
During the stop, they say K9 Ayax was deployed and alerted officers to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered more than 2 pounds of black tar heroin hidden inside a natural void within the truck. Officers also seized THC products and a semi-automatic handgun.
The driver, Andres Teijeda Valencia, 24. of Irving, was taken into custody. He is charged with Manufacturing/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG1 greater than 400 grams, Possession of a Controlled Substance PG2 less than 1 gram, and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.
Police estimate the seized heroin has a street value of $65,000.
Seguin PD officials say the success of the interception was the result of coordinated work between the Traffic Safety Unit and the Patrol Division.
