Seguin residents invited to take a seat at The Table

Seguin residents invited to take a seat at The Table

Holiday meal to be served for free on Sunday

(Seguin) — As one of Seguin’s largest Thanksgiving traditions returns this weekend, organizers say it has been the community’s generosity that is once again making it possible to feed local residents.

This Sunday, Nov. 23, The Table will welcome residents from across Seguin for a free holiday meal inside the Seguin Coliseum.

Among the lead organizers is Chris Larson, the pastor at New Life Fellowship Church. Larson says the meal is a collaborative effort of dozens of individuals, churches, groups, and businesses. He says the goal this year is to serve more than 2,000 meals, a number that reflects both the community’s need and its willingness to step up.

“The first year in the Coliseum, we handed out about 750 plates. Year two was over 1,5000 and we are expecting over 2,000 this year. We are so blessed by the support we get. The city of Seguin has come beside us and helped us so much. We have amazing people volunteering – amazing people who are donating and giving – companies that are coming alongside and donating funds. You have the hospital giving and so many other people giving. You have Tyson doing the chicken. It is a city outreach that has really come in and poured in because as our city grows, the need grows,” said Larson.

Larson says much of the food and supplies are provided through partnerships with local companies, including Tyson Foods, area churches, and Seguin-area donors.

“We always do barbecue chicken. They are out there smoking and cooking that chicken early in the morning. Typically, you’ve got most of your Thanksgiving sides – mashed potatoes, corn and a few of the other sides. We’ve got desserts as well,” said Larson.

Larson as reported earlier says The Table centers on something simpler — neighbors sitting down together.

He says attendees are encouraged to stay, visit, and share the experience.

Organizers say no sign-up is required to attend, and although they have enough volunteers for Sunday, anyone who wishes to be part of the event may still register and will be contacted if additional help is needed. Financial contributions, however, are still being accepted.

Donations can be made at New Life Fellowship or by contacting Pastor Larson at 830-305-0248. They can also be made online at thetableseguin.com.

Meals will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Seguin Coliseum located at 950 S. Austin St.
