(San Marcos) — Several area high school student-athletes recently earned Academic All-State honors for cross country, tennis, and volleyball from the Texas High School Coaches Association.
Five student-athletes were recognized at Seguin High School, three at Navarro High School, and five at Marion High School.
Three members of the Seguin tennis team made the academic all-state team. Nolan Schwerdtfeger was named to the first team, Jewellee Rodriguez earned a spot on the second team, and Lealanie Casiano received an honorable mention. From the Seguin Lady Matador volleyball team, Gisele Morales and Lilah Bird both earned honorable mentions.
At Navarro, Lady Panther volleyball players Avery Sisak and Peyton Schimonsky earned academic all-state accolades. Sisak was named to the second team, while Schimonsky received an honorable mention. For cross country, Lilia Flo earned first team academic all-state honors.
Two Marion cross country runners and three Lady Bulldog volleyball players earned academic all-state honors. Eryn Beck was named to the first team in cross country, while Marcelo Morales earned a second-team spot. For volleyball, Lailah Hernandez and Emily Sampson were named to the second team, and Ellie Parker earned an honorable mention.
Texas Academic All-State teams recognize senior high school athletes, trainers, and managers for their academic achievements. To qualify, students must be a senior with a minimum GPA (often 92 or 94) and meet additional criteria including class rank and standardized test scores.
