Marion Bulldog Football X

(Jourdanton) — For the third straight year, the Marion Bulldogs and Jourdanton Indians will meet in the bi-district round of the playoffs.

The Bulldogs and Indians will meet tonight at Jourdanton High School, and you’ll be able to hear the game on KWED. Jourdanton took down Marion, 35-14 two years ago in the bi-district round. Last year, the Bulldogs beat the Indians, 46-14 in the first round.

The Bulldogs, led by first year head coach Joel Call, have a dynamic offense. Marion quarterback Kade Pape has thrown for over 2,000 yards and 33 touchdowns this year. Pape’s favorite target is Jaiden Riley, who has over 1,100 yards receiving on the season and 22 TD receptions. Both Pape and Riley will play in the San Antonio Sports All-Star football game at the Alamodome in January.

Marion also has a 1,000-yard running back in the speedy Tanner Otis. Led by their playmakers, the Bulldogs have scored an average of 39.4 points per game this season.

The Bulldog defense also has some good players. Blake Birdwell, Hayden Robbins, and Emerson Elder are the leading tacklers for the Marion defensive unit.

Marion head coach Joel Call says his team continues to improve in the first year under a new coaching staff.

“We’re all fired up. I think we’ve made huge strides. Our first objective was to get to this point and be playoff eligible,” Call said. “And now our whole focus is to win the first playoff game. So, I’m fired up for the progress. But with everything we do, we still want to improve. We think there’s areas for growth and improvement. So, that’s now our focus.”

Marion finished third in District 13-3A this season while Jourdanton was tied for first in District 14-3A. The Bulldogs are 6-4 overall on the season. The Indians are 7-3. Kickoff for tonight’s Class 3A Division I bi-district matchup between Jourdanton and Marion is set for 7 p.m. at Jourdanton High School.

Tune in for High School Football Friday Night starting at 6:15 p.m. on KWED. We’ll have the Navarro Panther report and the Seguin Matador report where we’ll review the seasons from the Navarro Panthers and Seguin Matadors with the head coaches of both teams.

That will be followed by the Marion Bulldog report as we sit down with Marion football coach Joel Call to talk about tonight’s bi-district playoff with Jourdanton. Then we’ll have our Bulldog football pregame at Jourdanton High School leading up to kickoff between the Indians and Bulldogs tonight on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.
