High school basketball: Navarro Lady Panthers win debut of new coach Nick Israel

New Navarro girls basketball coach Nick Israel (second from right) poses with his players following the Lady Panthers' season opening win over Lytle at Navarro High School on November 11, 2025.

(Geronimo) — New Navarro head girls basketball coach Nick Israel was a winner in his head coaching debut on Tuesday night.

The Navarro Lady Panthers led start to finish in a 54-32 victory over Lytle at Navarro High School. Senior guard Cam Shields paced the Lady Panthers with 17 points. Senior forward Trinity Loftice also reached double figures, pouring in 10. Junior guard Audrina Pacheco chipped in with seven.

Israel, who comes to Navarro after spending last year as an assistant boys coach at San Antonio East Central, coached his first girls game Tuesday night. The new coach said he’s been happy with the effort of his players buying into the program, and he’s looking for his team to continue to improve.

“I want our second unit to be as strong defensively as our first unit,” Israel said. “Some of these girls are just coming over from volleyball and their legs are just getting used to the running up and down the court. And I just want to see that intensity come from the rest of the girls on the bench so we can rotate more players.”

The Lady Panthers will return to their home court on Saturday afternoon when they host London.

(Manor) — The Seguin Lady Matadors came up short on the road Tuesday night at Manor.

The Lady Mustangs came away a winner on their home court, 52-34. The Lady Matadors were led by freshman Phaedra Douglas, who dropped in 18 points to lead all scorers.

Seguin, 0-2 on the season, will next head to their first tournament of the season. The Lady Mats will play in the Floresville tournament Thursday through Saturday.

(Victoria) — The Seguin boys basketball team will officially open their season on Friday.

The Matadors will travel to Victoria to take on the Victoria East Titans for their season opener on Friday night.

(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs are 2-0 on the season after taking down Charlotte at Marion High School on Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs ran past the Trojanettes, 67-47. Marion is off for the next week. The Lady Bulldogs will host New Braunfels Christian Academy next Thursday, November 20th.

(Geronimo) — The Marion and Navarro boys basketball teams will face each other to start their seasons next week.

The Bulldogs and Panthers will meet at Navarro High School this coming Tuesday.
