Made in Seguin Day Gives Students a Glimpse Into Local Career Opportunities

(Seguin) — A group of area high school students will get a firsthand look at what their futures could hold — right here at home.

The Seguin Economic Development Corporation, together with local school districts, is hosting the annual Made in Seguin Day on Tuesday, October 28 as part of National Manufacturing Month.

Students from Seguin, Navarro, and Marion high schools — along with Southwest Preparatory and the Mercer Blumberg Learning Center — will spend the day touring 12 Seguin manufacturing plants, including Caterpillar, Niagara Bottling, Cavco, Alamo Group, AmeriTex Pipe & Products, and CMC Steel Texas.

The program is designed to show students the wide range of skilled, high-tech, and well-paying jobs available in their own community, especially for those not planning to go straight into college or the military and who will be looking to start their careers immediately after high school.

Seguin’s manufacturing base includes more than 8,400 jobs, one of the highest per-capita totals in the nation. Organizers say the experience can open eyes and change futures by helping students discover local career pathways in areas like robotics, welding, and engineering.

Now in its seventh year, Made in Seguin Day continues to connect students with opportunity — and strengthen the city’s future workforce by showing them that great careers can start right here at home.
