(Seguin) — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and today on the Saturday Topic will talk to a local organization that’s helping to meet the needs of victims across this area.

The Crisis Center of Comal County, despite its name, also provides services to people in the Seguin and Guadalupe County areas.

This morning, Nicholle Kepczyk, the center’s chief impact officer; and Cody Greinke, a next step case manager for the center, join us for a discussion about all the issues surrounding the issue of domestic violence and the many services that they offer.

Kepczyk says, much like the Thriving Hearts Crisis Center in Seguin, they try to help as many domestic violence victims as possible and make sure they get the help that they need.

“Part of serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault means that their home county may not be the safest place for them. So, if you think about somebody who’s actively in flight, they don’t want to stay where their perpetrator is. They actually want to come to a different location, that may be undisclosed or may be disclosed, but further away. In our stats, in terms of our population services, Guadalupe County is actually second, and then Bexar and Hays counties. We even have people from across the US. If somebody is actively fleeing violence, they need to get as far away as they can. Comal County right now is the fourth fastest growing county in the nation, and obviously Guadalupe County is affected by that growth. So, we see people from all over the US who end up in New Braunfels to receive the care that they need,” said Kepczyk.
