(Smithville) — Coming off their first district win of the season, the Navarro Panthers will go for two-in-a-row when they travel to Smithville for a District 13-4A tangle with the Tigers on Friday.
The Panthers took down Gonzales, 31-14, at homecoming at Navarro High School last week to improve to 1-3 in district. Emerson Elder had two interceptions for the Navarro defense while Braddock Gallini recovered a fumble. Elder, Brody Zoeller and Dylan Trotti each reached the end zone for the offense.
Navarro head coach Glenn Hill talked about the play of his quarterback, Austin Davidson, and the continued progress from the offense and defense.
“I think we’ve established the run game really well this year. Now, we’re starting to see some different pieces come into play. Very often we’ll have two or three plays in one, and our quarterback will deliver (the football) to the appropriate person,” Hill said. “Last Friday night, he was able to spread it out a little bit and we had some guys stepping up. And then defensively, we had two interceptions, had a fumble recovery. And those are huge. If we can we win the turnover battle, that’s pivotal to winning a football game.”
Like Navarro last week, Smithville is looking to win its first district game. The Tigers and Panthers kick off Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Smithville.
(Marion) — The Marion Bulldogs, 2-0 in District 13-3A, face another team with a 2-0 district record on Friday.
Marion hosts Ingram Moore. The Bulldogs have district victories over Luling and Randolph. The Warriors have beaten Randolph and Florence. Both teams are coming off the district bye week.
During the bye week, two Bulldogs were named to play in the San Antonio Sports All-Star Football Game. Quarterback Kade Pape and receiver Jaiden Riley will play in the game to be held at the Alamodome in January. Pape has thrown for 23 touchdowns in seven games. Riley has caught 17 touchdowns.
Marion head coach Joel Call says the honors for Pape and Riley represent honors for the team as a whole.
“We’re a little bias. We think those dudes are shoo-ins, phenomenal players. And each of those guys couldn’t have done what they’ve done without the team,” Call said. “When one of our guys gets an individual accolade like that, we consider it a team accolade. It takes a lot of people to make it work, and so we’re excited for them. Our team’s excited for them. It’s a great honor to play in that game.”
Pape, Riley and the rest of the Bulldogs take on Ingram Moore at Veterans Stadium in Marion on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
(Converse) — The Seguin Matadors are on the road on Friday.
Seguin will travel to Converse to take on Wagner in District 13-5A play. The Matadors are 1-3 in district, a game behind Wagner and Boerne Champion for the fourth and final playoff spot in the district standings.
Friday’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. at D.W. Rutledge Stadium in Converse. You’ll be able to hear the game on KWED.
We’ll have High School Football Friday Night starting at 6:15 p.m. We’ll chat more with Navarro coach Glenn Hill on the Navarro Panther Report. We’ll talk more with Marion coach Joel Call on the Marion Bulldog Report. And we’ll talk with Seguin head coach Craig Dailey on the Seguin Matador Report.

The Bulldogs and ‘Roos meet in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. TLU slipped past Hendrix, 50-48, with a touchdown on an untimed down last Saturday to improve to 2-0 in conference. Austin College is 0-2 in conference play.
