(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors host defending Class 5A Division I state champion Smithson Valley at Seguin Hall of Honor Night on Friday.
Smithson Valley is 3-0 this season in District 13-5A, tied with New Braunfels for first place. The Matadors are in a four-way tie for fourth place in the district at 1-2.
The Rangers routed Wagner, 48-7, last Friday, while Seguin played competitively with the defending district champion, Pieper, in a 56-42 loss at Pieper High School. The Matadors put up over 600 yards of total offense against the Warriors. Corey Dailey was 29 of 53 through the air for 379 yards with four touchdowns. The senior quarterback also ran for 60 yards. Running back DJ Luckey had his first 100-yard rushing game of the season, finishing with 129 yards on 13 carries and two scores. Wide receiver Elliot Weaver caught 11 passes for 234 yards and three TDs.
Tomorrow’s Hall of Honor game between the Matadors and Smithson Valley kicks off at 7 p.m. at Matador Stadium. We’ll have the game on KWED. Former Seguin student-athletes P.J. Hall, Marvin Clack Jr., and Ivy Koehler-Meehan will be inducted into the Seguin ISD Athletic Hall of Honor before the game.
(San Antonio) — The Boerne Champion Chargers, a part of the four-way tie with Seguin for fourth place in the district, play on the road at San Antonio MacArthur this evening. The Brahmas are winless so far on the season.
(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers host Gonzales at homecoming at Navarro High School on Friday.
The Panthers are 0-3 in District 13-4A, while the Apaches are 2-0. Navarro is coming off a 35-21 district defeat last week at undefeated Jarrell. Gonzales knocked off Lago Vista, 34-28, last Friday at home for their second district win.
Tomorrow’s Navarro homecoming game between the Panthers and Gonzales Apaches kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Erwin-Lee Field in Geronimo.

(Seguin) — The TLU Bulldogs host Hendrix College in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

(San Antonio) — Former Seguin Matador wideout Devin Matthews and East Texas A&M will be down the road in San Antonio on Saturday.
Matthews and the Lions play at Incarnate Word in San Antonio on Saturday afternoon. The former Matador leads East Texas A&M in receiving yards with 369 yards. Matthews, a sophomore, has caught 16 passes and is tied for the team lead with two TD receptions.
The East Texas A&M Lions and the IWU Cardinals meet Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. at Incarnate Word University.
