(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers play on KWED tonight.
Navarro hosts Salado in a District 13-4A matchup at Erwin-Lee Field in Geronimo. The Eagles are coming off a 29-28 overtime win at home against Lago Vista last week while the Panthers fell in the last seconds at Wimberley, 31-28, last Friday. The Texans scored the game-winning touchdown with 21 seconds left in the game.
Navarro running back Dylan Trotti scored all four touchdowns in the game. He ran over the Wimberley defense for 234 yards. Trotti is a two-way starter for the Panthers, and Navarro head football coach Glenn Hill says they kept feeding the senior the ball last week.
“He’s a great player on both sides of the ball,” says Hill. “He’s racked up a lot of carries this year. So going into last week, we made it a goal to limit his carries. We set a number of around 22 carries and unfortunately, he got to that at halftime.
“We kept feeding him the ball and he kept being productive. He’s a great player in space, hard to get down and he also had five or six tackles for us on defense. He had terrific night.”
Tonight’s game between the Panthers and Salado Eagles kicks off at 7:30 p.m. You’ll be able to hear the game on KWED.
(Marion) — It’s homecoming tonight at Marion High School as the Marion Bulldogs welcome Luling to Veterans Stadium in the district opener for both teams.
The Bulldogs routed Poteet, 50-20, last week in their final tune-up before the start of District 13-3A play. Marion quarterback Kade Pape threw five touchdowns in the victory, four of them to wide receiver Jaiden Riley. The Bulldogs finished their non-district schedule at 3-2 with last week’s home victory.
Bulldog head coach Joel Call says he looks forward to being in front of the homecoming crowd.
“We’re excited. We love playing at our place,” Call said. “The two times we’ve played here, our student section has been phenomenal. Big shout out to them and our band.
“At homecoming, you just can’t get caught up in the rah-rah. We gotta make sure we’re doing our part to improve our football team.”
Kickoff for tonight’s homecoming game between Marion and Luling is set for 7 p.m. at Marion High School.
(Seguin) — The Seguin Matadors are on their bye this week. The Mats will be on the road for a District 13-5A matchup at Pieper next Friday night.
