"I am Charlie Kirk": Seguin resident speaks out after political activist's assassination

(Seguin)– The assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk was a topic raised during Tuesday’s meeting of the Seguin City Council.

Local resident Stephen Judah spoke about Kirk’s murder during the Citizens To Be Heard portion of the meeting. He stressed that he was there to use his words to oppose those, including any leaders, who appeared to celebrate Kirk’s death.

“We will defeat you through lawfare, voting, cultural superiority and the strength of the Almighty God himself. You would be doing us all a favor if you quietly exit your job, preferably this week, but if not, rest assured, that the rest of us will ferret you out and you will be removed. Your kind killed the reasonable one. Now you get to deal with the rest of us. For liberals and conservatives who condemn this vile act and see each other as humans and neighbors, I look forward to working with you on a building a future where our children can live peacefully. For those who celebrated this act, I look forward to your inevitable and deserved defeat. I am a poor imitation, but I am Charlie Kirk,” said Judah.

District 7 Councilman Jason Biesenbach also spoke during this portion of the meeting and used his time to recognize the work done by Kirk and to criticize those who use violence as part of political disagreements.

“We have become a society that celebrates evil, that celebrates the assassination of a man that promoted free speech. He would sit down across from people that vehemently disagreed with him because he believed so strongly in the First Amendment and debate. He believed in fighting in the arena of ideas and at the ballot box. He believed that the minute we stopped talking to each other is the minute that this amazing experiment of the United States would be over. He is quoted as saying that when we stopped talking, that’s when really bad stuff starts – when civilizations stop talking, war ensues. When you stop having human connection with somebody you disagree with, it becomes a lot easier to want to commit violence against that group. We as a culture have to get back to having a reasonable disagreement where violence is not an option,” said Biesenbach.

Charlie Kirk, a popular conservative voice, was killed last week during an event at Utah Valley University.
