Hospital providing a taste of health, information plus fun
(Seguin) – This weekend you are invited to sip, shop, and support women’s health.
Guadalupe Regional Medical Center is inviting the community to raise a glass in a toast to breast cancer awareness at its Annual Mammos & Mimosas event scheduled for this Saturday morning in the GRMC Central Entrance Lobby.
Chelsea Maldonado, GRMC executive director of marketing says Mammos & Mimosas is all centered on the importance of breast cancer prevention. She says the blend of health and some hospitality fun is designed to help make the topic of breast health approachable and encouraging for anyone in the community.
“I think the point is that there’s a lot of women, just in general, that we kind of put our health care last, right? We care for others whether it is our children, our significant other, other family members so we really want to make sure that the women in our community are taking care of themselves but then also getting an opportunity to enjoy themselves and feel pampered and get to enjoy some fun experiences with loved ones or friends that can kind of come together and come out for this event – so the idea of combining mammograms which is not the most exciting thing in the world but it is necessary to make sure that women are staying healthy but then also integrating more unique things like come and have these unique mimosas and we have these wonderful vendors that have wonderful offerings whether its boutique items or gifts so just trying to combine it and make it convenient,” said Maldonado.
Maldonado says she believes one of GRMC’s greatest accomplishments with the annual event has been the ability to show what mammography is all about while helping to take away the fear surrounding it.
“When you come to the event, you are able to tour the Women’s Imaging Center. You are able to see each of the mammography rooms. You are able to see the changing room where you would go. So, you would get to see it without actually doing any of the things that we would normally do in those areas and so (it) takes that fearfulness out so that people feel more confident to make those appointments and you also get to meet our mammography techs that would actually be performing that mammogram for you so being able to put a face with a name – it just makes it’s a lot more comfortable for people so that has been very successful,” said Maldonado.
This year’s event will again include complimentary mimosas plus a photo booth, on-site chair massages, and local vendors showcasing fashion, jewelry, and gift items. The first 100 attendees will also receive a custom 40 oz. stainless steel pink tumbler.
The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the GRMC Central Entrance Lobby.
