Navarro, Marion and Seguin ready for gridiron games on Friday night

(Geronimo) — The Navarro Panthers will be back home Friday night to take on the La Vernia Bears.

The Panthers are coming off a 21-13 road loss to Canyon Lake last week, dropping their record to 1-2. Friday’s game against La Vernia will be Navarro’s final game before they open District 13-4A play next week at Wimberley.

Panther head coach Glenn Hill says he sees improvement from his team as they traverse a tough non-district schedule.

“This non-district has been a huge growing point for us as a team. They’re learning a ton,” Hill said of his players. “Every single week, every single film session is huge for us. They’re taking big steps offensively and defensively playing some real quality opponents. And it’s starting to click. There are flashes. We just get to the point to where the consistency is there the whole game.”

La Vernia is 2-1 on the season. The Bears have scored 70-plus points in each of their victories. Friday’s game between La Vernia and Navarro kicks off at 7:30 at Erwin-Lee Field in Geronimo.

(Lago Vista) — The Marion Bulldogs play their third straight road game on Friday night.

The Bulldogs, 2-1 so far this season, will be in Lago Vista to take on the Vikings. Class 3A Marion fell at Class 4A Gonzales last week. Lago Vista is another tough Class 4A challenge for the Bulldogs, and Marion head coach Joel Call says he wants his team to be tested.

“This is a challenging point in our schedule. It’s by design. We want to be tested,” Call said. “We’re building week by week. I told them, all of the state championship teams I’ve been a part of, none of them were undefeated. And sometimes a loss comes and it’s what you do with that loss. We want to learn from those mistakes that we made.”

Lago Vista is also 2-1 on the season. The Bulldogs and Vikings meet at 7:30 Friday evening in Lago Vista.

(Victoria) — The Seguin Matadors will start their District 13-5A schedule on the road Friday night against Victoria East.

Seguin goes into their district season riding a two-game win streak. The Matadors beat Corpus Christi Miller, 42-27, in Seguin two weeks ago. Last week, Seguin took down Brazoswood, 34-27, in El Campo. Victoria East lost all three of their non-district games to three teams whose combined record is 8-1.

The Matadors and Titans will meet at Memorial Stadium in Victoria. We’ll have the game on KWED. Our High School Football Friday Night coverage starts at 6:15 with the Navarro Panther Report. That will be followed by the Marion Bulldog Report. Then we’ll have the Seguin Matador Report as we take you up to kickoff between Victoria East and Seguin at 7 p.m. Friday night on AM 1580 and streaming at SeguinToday.com.
