TLU alum Jeff Hiller wins Emmy

(Seguin) — A Texas Lutheran University graduate is now an Emmy Award winner.

Jeff Hiller, who studied at TLU in Seguin, captured his first Emmy on Sunday night, taking home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2025 Emmy Awards.

Hiller stars in the critically acclaimed HBO comedy series “Somebody Somewhere,” which has drawn widespread praise from both audiences and reviewers.

An excited Hiller delievered his acceptance speech before a huge crowd Sunday night.

“I feel like I’m going to cry because for the past 25 years I’ve been like, ‘World, I want to be an actor.’ And the world’s like, ‘Maybe computers?’ And I just want to say thank you to HBO for putting a show about sweaty, middle-aged people on the same network as the sexy teens of Euphoria. Thank you to the Duplass brothers and Carolyn Strauss and Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen, who wrote a show about connecting and love in this time when compassion is seen as a weakness. And thank you to my sweet husband and my family for never laughing at me. And most of all, thank you, Bridget Everett. You changed my life and you told so many people to believe in themselves and they do. Thank you,” said Hiller.

He later spoke backstage about the win.

“Thank you so much to all my team — my agents, and my manager, and all the incredible guest stars and wonderful actors, and my sweet sister, Melissa Calloway, and my mom. I wish she could see this, and my dad, too,” said Hiller.

TLU shared the news on its Facebook page, posting:

“Congratulations, Jeff Hiller!! 🎉 Our very own Texas Lutheran alum has won his first Emmy — taking home Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the 2025 Emmys! We are so proud of you, Jeff!”

The university went on to say that it couldn’t be more excited to see one of its own achieve success on one of television’s biggest stages.
