Marion Lady Bulldogs sweep past New Braunfels Christian Academy

(Marion) — The Marion Lady Bulldogs swept past New Braunfels Christian Academy in a non-district match at Marion High School on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs took the match, 25-21, 25-14, 25-20. Marion fell behind in the first set but rallied with a 13-2 run to go up 1-0.

Ellie Parker got the Lady Bulldogs off to a good start in each of the next two sets. The senior setter rolled off five straight points off serve to start the second set and got Marion off to a 4-0 lead in the third set off her serve.

First-year Marion head volleyball coach Bree Holz-Gonzales talked about Parker’s serve and play following the match.

“She has a great serve. It has a lot of movement on it,” Holz-Gonzales said. “She’s a senior. She’s been in this role for a few years now, so she’s really settled in. She understands spreading out the offense. I thought she did a great job of doing that tonight.”

Marion has five more matches before the start of their district season. The Class 3A Lady Bulldogs will host Class 6A Judson on Friday at Marion High School.

In other action on the courts on Tuesday night,

(Geronimo) — The Class 4A Navarro Lady Panthers went to five sets in knocking off 6A Cibolo Steele at Navarro High School.

The Lady Panthers will next host Floresville on Friday afternoon before Friday night’s Navarro/Antonian football game at Erwin-Lee Field.

(San Antonio) — And the Seguin Lady Matadors improved to 3-0 in District 27-5A with a win at San Antonio Lanier on Tuesday night.

With the straight sets victory, the Lady Mats now have three sweeps under their belts in district play. Seguin returns to district play on Friday when they take on San Antonio Jefferson at Goldie Harris Gym.
