(Geronimo) — The Navarro Lady Panthers fell in four competitive sets to Schertz Clemens on Tuesday night at Navarro High School.
The Class 6A Lady Buffs took down the Class 4A Lady Panthers 25-18, 15-25, 25-17, 25-21. Navarro continued with their difficult early season schedule. The Lady Panthers have played Class 5A and 6A schools in all eight of their matches so far this season.
Navarro head coach Paige Poth says her team is improving through the tough schedule. Following last night’s match Poth talked about the play of her setters, Avery Sisak and Hannah Durrett who have given hitters including freshman Elle Hepp and Linley Kirk good opportunities at the net.
“They involve everybody,” Poth said. “They have done a great job of ‘hey, hit the ball’ and my two freshmen on the front line have gotten comfortable. Elle Hepp was one of our top scorers tonight.”
Poth also said her team’s defense is coming along at a good pace despite the demanding early schedule. Navarro will finally see Class 4A competition when they play at the Bastrop tournament starting on Thursday.
In other matches last night, the Seguin Lady Matadors were in San Antonio where they swept past Sam Houston in their District 27-5A opener and the Marion Lady Bulldogs fell in three sets on the road to the New Braunfels Thunder homeschool squad.
The Lady Mats will next compete at the Bastrop tournament. While the Marion Lady Bulldogs will play at the Floresville Jag Classic-Varsity Tourney which gets also underway on Thursday.
