Pair's attempt at drug trafficking ends in Guadalupe County

(Seguin) — A routine traffic stop Friday night by the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the discovery of a massive drug shipment.

Officials say at approximately 7:15 p.m., Friday, Sgt. Dustin Crawford of the Patrol Division’s K9 Unit pulled over a Ford F-150 on U.S. Highway 90 near State Highway 123 for speeding and for driving on the improved shoulder.

They say the vehicle, occupied by Roberto Moreno Rangel and Martin Anibal Gomez Cisneros, both residents of Mexico, was searched after the driver granted consent.

During the search, deputies say they located an aftermarket compartment in the bed of the truck. Hidden inside were approximately 147.75 kilograms of methamphetamine and 7.75 kilograms of heroin.

Officials say federal charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver more than 10 kilograms of a controlled substance and conspiracy to possess with intent to deliver more than 5 kilograms are being filed against both men.

Both Rangel and Cisneros are currently being held at the Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center, awaiting transfer to federal custody.
