Seguin Lady Matadors start 2025 volleyball season with a couple of sweeps

The Seguin Lady Matadors and Navarro Lady Panthers compete at Goldie Harris Gym in Seguin on August 11, 2025.

(Seguin) — The Seguin Lady Matadors started the 2025 volleyball season with a couple of sweeps at Goldie Harris Gym on Monday.

The Lady Mats took out Cuero, 25-22, 26-24 and 25-22 and then knocked off the Navarro Lady Panthers, 25-17, 26-24 and 25-20.

Junior Ellie Anderson led Seguin with 27 kills over the two matches along with five service aces. Fellow junior Rebeka Wilke powered home 17 kills on the day. Freshman Kassidy Dailey threw down 13 kills and senior captain Gisele Morales set up her teammates with 58 assists over the two victories.

Lady Matador head coach Ashley Farris, now in her fourth year at Seguin, earned her first victory over neighboring Navarro. Farris was in a joking mood when talking about the chemistry of her team following the match.

“I actually was joking with Coach (Craig) Dailey last week that this is year four, so if I don’t elevate the program this year, then you need to fire me. We just kind of laughed about it,” Farris quipped. “Yeah, it’s a good start. Our returners match with our four really good freshmen and it makes for a really good mixture.”

For the Lady Panthers, third-year head coach Paige Poth talked about freshman hitter Linley Kirk, who saw a lot of playing time in her first game. Poth also discussed the challenges facing her young squad.

“It’s asking a lot of a freshman, but once we start figuring things out and get over the newness of it all and the team gets comfortable, it’ll start to come together,” Poth said. “They’ve got a lot of great opponents coming up and it’s not gonna be an easy road for them, but with this group being so new and so young, it’s probably exactly what we need.”

In action tonight, the season for the Marion Lady Bulldog volleyball team will start their season on the road as they take on the Canyon Lake Lady Hawks. First serve is set for 6 p.m. at Canyon Lake High School.
