Heightened security measures in place as Seguin High School students return

Heightened security measures in place as Seguin High School students return

(Seguin) — Seguin High School students will encounter a new daily routine when classes resume next week — walking through metal detectors before stepping into the building. The new safety measure, set to launch on the first day of school, is part of Seguin ISD’s ongoing effort to enhance campus security and ensure peace of mind for students, staff, and families.

According to Dr. Ruben Carrillo, Seguin ISD’s chief of technology and security, the detectors will provide a new layer of protection for students and staff.

“We want our students, teachers, and staff members to feel safe on our campus at all times,” said Carrillo. “By having students go through screening at the beginning of the school day, we have an opportunity to remove prohibited items before they can become a potential problem.”

Students will pass through the metal detectors at the front door by the school’s front office, as well as at the courtyard doors by the student parking lot and the bus loop.

The metal detectors will be set up as early as 7:45 a.m. for use before school starts. Students who arrive after the first bell rings at 8:35 a.m. will still be required to pass through the metal detectors.

The high school’s new principal, Alberto “Beto” Munoz, asks that students and parents be patient during the first few weeks of school as the campus adjusts to the new arrival procedure.

“There will be a learning curve for our students, as well as our security personnel,” said Munoz. “We know this may be a challenge at first, but I am confident that our students will adjust quickly.”
